O'Neill Wants Ireland To Contact Him If He Wishes To Play For World Cup

The manager of the Republic of Ireland football team, Martin O’Neill, has said that if Stephen Ireland wants to bring himself back into consideration for a place in the national squad, he will have to get in touch with him at some point of time next month.

O’Neill is not at all impressed with the fact that Ireland is not responding to the phone calls made to him.

Ireland Unfeatured In Provisional Squad List

Stephen Ireland is a constant starter in Stoke City but despite this, he was not featured in the provisional squad and list of players that was created by Martin O’Neil which includes all of the performers which will play for Ireland in their upcoming friendly matches.

In the next few weeks and month Ireland has to lock horns with Turkey, Italy, Costa Rica and Portugal all of which are friendly matches that are going to take place before the start of the 2014 World Cup.


Stoke city midfielder Stephen Ireland has said that his club are now capable of finishing above Newcastle United in the table after Mark Hughes’ men managed a 1-0 win over Alan Pardew’s team during the weekend. Ireland has been suffering from a couple of injuries in recent weeks. This prevented him from being part of the squad that took on Chelsea and lost 3-0 at Stamford Bridge in the previous weekend. His return to the team proved to be the difference after he contributed immensely and helped Stoke win 1-0


Stoke City’s Stephen Ireland was unable to play against his former club Aston Villa due to a clause in his contract which prohibits the midfielder from playing against the club which he used to play for and Mark Hughes expressed his disappointment for not being able to use Ireland in the match.

Mark Hughes Sky Sports News: "Aston Villa stipulated that they weren't going to allow the loan deal to be changed unless it was in the contract that Stephen couldn't play against them’’.

Ireland waiting still for O’Neill call

Stephen Ireland is waiting still for a phone call, from Martin O’Neill. The soccer star has stated that he hasn’t been contacted by any of the new managers of Republic of Ireland, be it Roy Keane or O’Neill.

However, Stephen has confirmed that he isn’t sitting all day by his phone for the call since it’s Stoke City that remains the 1st priority for the star footballer.

The young footballer is of the belief that Keane and O’Neill are waiting to find how his squad career looks as the playmaker strives for the contract post the season termination.


Stoke City have completed the permanent signing of midfielder Stefan Ireland, who has been on loan at the club since the start of the season. Ireland had fallen out of favour with Villa boss Paul Lambert, which led to his loan move to Stoke.

He has always enjoyed a great relationship with Stoke boss Mark Hughes even from his days at Manchester City. This has led to Ireland enjoying football after a long time. Stoke also have been able to take advantage of a very creative midfielder, who has not been playing regularly in the last few years.


Stoke City manager Mark Hughes has revealed that the club are keen to sign the midfielder Stephen Ireland on a permanent basis. The Irishman is currently on loan from Aston Villa till the end of the season. However, his Aston Villa contract comes to an end this season and it seems that Paul Lambert is not keen to renew his deal after having fallen out with the midfielder. He has been rejuvenated under Hughes this campaign after having played with him at Manchester City. Now, the club are looking to make Ireland their major signing in the summer.

Ireland has been out of international football since the last 6 years. In 2007, he had withdrawn his name from the Republic of Ireland squad ahead of a match against Czech Republic saying that his grandmother was dead. But, later on, it was found out that he had lied. The actual reason behind his withdrawal was his girlfriend who had gone through miscarriage.


Middlesbrough have been linked with a move for Aston Villa midfielder Stephen Ireland in the last few weeks, but the manager Tony Mowbray has chosen to remain quiet on this transfer rumour. This has once again intensified speculation that the Championship club will be able to get a player at the peak of his career. At times, Ireland has been one of the best players for Aston Villa and Manchester city. These are the two clubs he has played in the last five years. However, he has been unable to realise his potential due to several personnel problems.


Aston Villa midfielder Stephen Ireland is likely to be told by his manager Paul Lambert in the next few days that he is free to leave the club. The former Manchester city midfielder has been a huge hit at Villa, but he has also been extremely consistent during his time at the club. The 26-year-old still has 12 months left on his contract, but it seems that Villa are not interested in negotiating his contract. The club has been suffering from severe financial crisis over the last few years.
